New painting, New Cuda painting, “Feeding Frenzy”

Once again, noted automotive artist Michael Irvine, has outdone himself. Known for the incredible details and reflections in his high impact water color paintings, “Feeding Frenzy” may be one of his most ambitious creations, to date. Using the mirror-like qualities of the dual chrome tanker to create a “panoramic” view, Michael puts you in the middle of the scene. Letting you see, not only what’s right in front of you, but also what’s behind you as well. Drawing you in, the subtle details and incredible images tell the whole story.

Although the actual settings in his works are fictional, in a painting like “Feeding Frenzy,” Michael strives to bring you back to bygone era: It’s the early ‘70s during the beginning of the first gas shortage. An intense summer storm has just passed, leaving behind a service station doing a booming business. Now that the driver of the tanker truck has done his job, the 1970-74 E-Body Cudas are circling—eager to fill their tanks!

The reflections in the dual tanks of the truck, allow you to view the scene from different perspectives. It’s as if you are standing in a new spot in each reflection. This lets you get a better understanding of the scene — a sort of, 360 degree view! What I like, is that the reflections allow you to see more than just the obvious scene in front of you. Like, you don’t really notice the service station, until you look more closely at the reflection in the tanker.”
