| 2012-01-25 - Comments made in the year 1955! |
- I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $10.00.
- Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $1, 000.00 will only buy a used one.
- If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. 20 cents a pack is ridiculous.
- Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter.
- If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.
- When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.
- I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.
- I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. - They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it in Texas .
- Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.
- I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now.
- It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet.
- It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.
- I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business.
- Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people to government.
- The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.
- There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend, it costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.
- No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.'
- If they think I'll pay 30 cents for a haircut, forget it.'

We recently received an email from a classic car club in Russia. It was very interesting to hear from them to get a perspective on the classic car scene from half way around the world. In Russia and CIS our clients use their own cars, in Europe we have partners for rent.
We would appreciate to invite you for our rallies and other events (all information you can find on our web www.old-time.ru or join your rallies and have fun on your events. Besides, we could discuss common projects, depending on your and our plans and strategies. | 2011-06-23 - Looking for information on the classic "Poison Kandy" |
| I am looking for some information on a car that started it’s transformation in 1956, It is a radical Kustom built by a gentleman named Tinker Hinton. It is a 1955 Ford Fairlane and sports 55 Buick rear tail lights. The car was originally purchased in Toronto and ended up in Halifax sometime in 1955/1956. The car was in the Magazine Speed Style & Custom in Feb 1961 volume 7. Since then the car was brought back to Ontario and I am now the proud caretaker of this prestigious kustom car. The car was also on the American show circuit in the early 1990’s and has won many many awards over time. A friend of mine said that he saw archived pictures and stories from back in the day at the World Trade Convention center in Halifax. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The car is now named Poison Kandy. Poison for all of the lead that Tinker used and Kandy for the paint. If you have any information, could you please contact me at andy@queenscovemarina.com. It would be very much appreciated.

| 2011-04-26 - Definition of Antiques Discussion Paper |
| Here is another discussion paper relating to the Motor Vehicle Act here in Nova Scotia. This one relates to the definition of "Antique vehicle" as used here in Nova Scotia. Click here to view the contents.
They are looking for feedback by May 13, 2011. If any of our MaritimeClassicCars.com readers have any feedback on items of concern, please email them to
MVAConsultations@gov.ns.ca or phone at (902) 424-4380. You can also mail you comments/concerns to
MVA Consultations – Antique Vehicles
1505 Barrington Street, PO Box 216,
Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 3N5
This one could have significant impact on some vehicles, particularly "street rods" built from fiberglass bodies on custom frames. These are not "original" vehicles and as such may not meet the definition of "antique". There are lots of them in Nova Scotia with "antique Auto" plates at this time.

| 2011-03-29 - Worlds Rarest Car |
This is the car that in 1954 could have "killed" the Corvette...so, Chevrolet, being GMs big sales and profit Division, campaigned to GM to "kill" this car. When Chevy was coming out with its 6-cyl. Sports car with its 2-speed "Powerglide" transmission and side curtains here was a sports car from Olds with a big old V-8 and power windows. So, GM said no to Oldsmobile on building this car. | 2011-02-28 - Quinpool Cruise Show & Shine no more!! |
I am sad to say that the Quinpool Cruise 2010 Show & Shine was our last one, however we will continue with the actual Quinpool Cruise on Saturday Night. It will be now called Crusin’ Quinpool .
The first Quinpool Cruise was held in June of 2001 in front of my store, with about eighteen cars, some good ole‘ rock and roll music, and some BBQ food. It continued to grow over the years , at times we had as many as 140 cars at the Show and Shine, and sometimes we had upwards of 400 cars at the evening cruise. One year we were able to help a charity. We have even had the Mayor join us from time to time. Last year was our biggest show and we wanted to go out on a good note.
This year’s cruise will be held on Saturday, July 16 2011, 7:00 PM, meeting again at Pepperall Street , around Bens Bakery parking lot. We hope to leave around 7:30 and cruise to Point Pleasant Past, stay there until about 8.30 and then head to Water Street , from there to the Rotary and then back to Tim Hortons, Quinpool for an informal Show/ shine.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have helped make this event successful over the years, especially : my good friends; Jon Clark, Gary Porter, Bob Newcomb and Ralph Snook.I would also like to thank the many sponsors that have helped us out financially over the years as well.
Thanks
Mike Chambers

| Just a few years ago (2006) we started MaritimeClassicCars.com in hopes of providing a central place that people could come to find classic car related information such as events, car clubs, classifieds, links and more. Being a niche market website, the expectations of visitors and web pages viewed numbers didn't really come to thought much. Well on Christmas day this year, we reached a bit of a milestone. We had our ONE MILLIONTH web page viewed. Thanks to all who visit our website and hopefully we are providing the classic car information the you are looking for. Things we are working on to improve our website include, FREE advertising for your classifieds, the ability to upload your pictures, A new Parts page where you can either post your parts for sale or if you are looking for parts. We are adding some security measures for the submission of classifieds. We are also hoping to create an event registration function that will assist event planners with the registrations for their events. | 2010-08-16 - Where has the MaritimeClassicCars.com Nova been !! |
Some of you may be thinking you have not seen the MaritimeClassicCars.com 78 Nova out and about that much this year. Well unfortunately you are right. In the spring we started a venture to have the engine tricked up with some powder coating of the intake and exhaust manifolds and other brackets. Also the addition of a new 4 barrel carburator, new lifters, camshaft, timing chain, valve seals, chrome valve covers and breather and a new set of bold red wires and distributor cap. When it was all said and done the engine looked amazing in Black/Red and Chrome. But here is where the trouble started. I guess by redoing the top end of the engine, after a few runs with it, we ended up blowing the rings out of her and she burns more oil than gas.
So we are now in negotiations with GM Canada looking for a possible sponsorship for a new 350 cu. in motor. We are keeping our fingers crossed. However, we have been out to a few shows without the car. We attended the PEI Hot Rod Assoc. show in Montegue, PEI, Graves Island (Chester). Coastal Cruisers (Bridgewater) and are planning to be at the A & W Cruisin the DUB, this Thursday. If you want to see a lot of classics cars (last year was about 1800), drop down the A & W in Dartmouth (Woodside Ferry Terminal), you are surely in for a treat. |

| 2010-06-24 - MaritimeClassicCars.com Nova escorts young couple to the Prom. |
With only a couple of days remaining to their highschool graduation Dance, Dean and Rebecca had their planned ride fall through at the last moment. Included in their search was a visit to MaritimeClassicCars.com. They contacted us to see if we could assist them in finding a drive to their Prom in a classic car. On a good day with plenty of notice it is still very hard to find a classic car and their driver who would be willing and available to help you out unless you personally know someone who owns one. After giving it serious thought about the situation they were in, we decided to help make their trip to the prom a memorable one and they generously offered gratitude for helping them out in the squeeze. Although we had a few showers, we joined them at the Dartmouth Commons for pictures and then swept them away for a classic cruise over to Halifax, around the beautiful Public Gardens and then off to the Prom. The young couple look marvelous as seen in the picture and we have been informed had a wonderful time at their Prom. Do you all remember your Prom Night? It brought back some very special memories.

|
Celebrity Dreamscape, in support of Phoenix, took place on Friday, May 14th at the Cunard Center in Halifax. The theme of this year’s gala fundraiser was a “70’s Disco Ball”. The Cunard Center was turned into a disco club! They were seeking the help of local classic car owners to help them add to their 70’s themed décor. The MaritimeClassicCars.com 1978 Nova was there with bells (bottom's !!??) on to help them out with their theme. As seen in the photo, the cool cats and gals found the car cool and just had to get their picture taken with her. Click on the image to enlarge. |

| 2010-05-01 - MaritimeClassicCars.com visit Muscle Car City |
Well a few months ago I received and e-mail telling me about a gentleman that had a collection of over 225 classic cars of which most of them being muscle cars. He had them stored in a warehouse, stacked on top of each other, squeezed together with the limited space he had. A few months later I found out that he purchased an old Wal-Mart store and created Muscle Car City. This museum now houses over 200 of his classics cars and includes a 50's style restaurant as well as a gift shop contains a large selection of classic and muscle car memorabilia.
We had a trip planned to Florida and after talking with owner Rick Treworgy, found out that his Muscle Car City was only a couple of hours south of Orlando where we were staying. Well you can bet I inserted a day trip on our calendar and paid a visit to his museum. What an awesome collection is all I can say. I also had the pleasure and privilege to chat with owner Rick for about 20 minutes about the collection and how he finds his collectables. Check back soon for a web page of the pictures we took while we were there. In the picture is a 1969 Camaro RS/SS with a 396 cu. in. which is my dream muscle car. Check out his website at http://www.musclecarcity.net |

Sidney Crosby celebrated his 22nd birthday party with thousands of local fans as he travelled in a vintage naval fire truck, displaying the Stanley Cup during a parade in his hometown of Cole Harbour, N.S. on Friday. After a thrilling 2-1 game seven win Sidney became the youngest player to captain his team to the Stanley Cup. We were there to witness the event on the sunny afternoon with the NHL's top prize in tow as Sidney returned home to a hero's welcome. | 2009-07-14 - MaritimeClassicCars.com Nova wins again at Moncton Nationals |
MaritimeClassicCars.com 78 Nova made it's second visit to the Moncton Nationals and for the second time in a row, came home with one of the major prizes.
Along with almost 1,800 other classic cars, and gorgeous weather for Friday & Saturday, we almost ended up coming home with a the new Chevy GM crate engine again!! With two prizes left to draw for, the numbers were drawn for the engine and a custom made classic car bed. I had heard two numbers drawn and neither one was mine so I thought it was over. With the rules being that you had to be in attendence to win, one of the prizes needed to have another number drawn. That next number was mine. As I was walking up to the stage, I wasn't sure which number had been drawn for again... my thought was "oh my god, did I win the engine again!!". But it was not to be, I had actually won the classic car bed. It is of a 1969 Cutlass and is valued at $1200. I do not have any young boys that I could give it to, so I am taking offers on the bed. Let me know if you are interested. |

| 2008-07-14 - MaritimeClassicCars.com Nova wins big at Moncton Nationals |
This year was the first year that the MaritimeClassicCars.com 78 Nova attended the Moncton Nationals and it turned out to be a worthwhile visit.
Along with 1810 other classic cars, and gorgeous weather both days, we ended up coming home with a brand spanking new Chevy GM crate engine. It was a 350 HO Deluxe with 330 horse power. The MaritimeClassicCars.com Nova is an all orginal matching numbers car and a difficult decision now has to be made... do I keep it original or drop the new 350 into her. Well after some further investigation of the power of this new engine and my existing drive train setup, it looks like it would take more work and dollars to drop this engine into the Nova than anticipated. The engine has been sold. |
